What Do You Do When the Universe Goes Silent?
Even if you're lost you can still keep moving...

This week feels… heavy.
For months I’ve been postponing making some big decisions.
Let’s be honest could anyone focus on anything in American until after the election. Then, of course, Thanksgiving was around the corner so why bother? And after that, it only made sense to push everything off until after Christmas… and cut me a break New Years fell on a Wednesday… no one was going to make things happen at the end of that “non-week.”
Well, guess what? This week, I’m officially out of excuses.
In my defense, I have been contemplating choices and asking for guidance but instead - for months instead of clarity, I’m met with the most deafening silence. It’s the kind of silence that makes you want to crawl under a blanket and wait for some cosmic GPS to start recalculating.
Because here’s the thing: I’ve always believed life sends us signs.
I’ve trusted in timing, synchronicity, and the idea that if I just paid attention, life would show me the right path. But lately, that sense of direction has gone radio silent. And I’m starting to wonder if the universe’s GPS is broken.
The Illusion of the ‘Right’ Choice
When I catch myself waiting for a sign, it’s usually because I’m afraid of making the wrong choice. It’s comforting to believe there’s a right path — that life has a master plan, and if I’m patient enough, the universe will reveal it.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth: waiting for a sign is often just procrastination dressed up as spirituality.
It also assumes that someone (or something) out there knows better than I do. That I’m a kid waiting for a parent or teacher to tell me what to do.
But what if there is no right path? No destiny? No higher purpose?
What if every choice simply leads to a different experience — and none of those experiences are inherently better or worse? They’re just different.
When we let go of the belief that life is a test, we gain freedom.
The question stops being, “What’s the right thing to do?”
And becomes, “What do I want to experience?”
Sometimes You Have to Start Driving
If you’ve ever used your car’s GPS, you know the feeling.
You enter your destination, but at first, it’s not always clear which way to start driving. Should you turn right? Left? Is this a one-way street?
But here’s the trick: you have to start moving first. The GPS needs you to get in motion before it can confirm whether you’re headed the right way.
And let’s be honest — I’m rarely going the right way when I first pull out of a parking lot. I take wrong turns, sometimes end up on a completely different road, and the GPS has to recalculate. But worst-case scenario? I make a few turns, double back, and get back on track.
The point is you have to start driving to get the update.
Life works the same way. Waiting for the perfect sign, the perfect conditions, or the perfect plan will keep you stuck. You have to move — even if you’re not 100% sure you’re heading in the right direction — and trust that you can recalibrate as you go.
What Do You Want to Experience?
When you let go of the need to pick the “right” road, the question becomes, “What do I want to experience?”
• Do I want adventure or stability?
• Do I want to learn something new or master what I already know?
• Do I want connection, growth, peace, challenge?
The universe’s silence isn’t withholding answers.
It’s reminding us that we get to choose.
When the Universe Goes Silent, It’s Your Turn to Speak
Of course, letting go of waiting for signs isn’t easy. There’s comfort in thinking that life has a master plan — that everything is unfolding exactly as it should. But maybe the silence is teaching us to trust ourselves.
Because here’s the truth:
• Sometimes you’ll choose the stable path and wonder what would’ve happened if you’d been more daring.
• Other times you’ll take a leap and find yourself longing for solid ground.
But none of those choices are wrong. They’re simply different chapters of your story.
And when the universe is quiet, maybe that’s the sign itself:
It’s your turn to speak.
Or maybe I just need to wait till Mars goes direct next month…
good stuff!..... well said!...... loved your ending!
Using your gps analogy (which I find very apt), once you start moving you should listen to your intuition when it tells you to override the gps. You can always go back to following its course once it recalibrates if you’re feeling completely lost.
And the neither you nor the gps is going to be able to predict what all the other cars are going to do.
