what i like about bringing my kid to PT at age 9 is that she got a taste of what it was for me to grow up in the 80s. especially as we moved out of Coimbra city into the countryside, its really like stepping back 40 years. you need cash. hours open arent obvious you must ask in Portuguese from a local, no uber. no delivery, except for wood and she hates that bc then we have to stack it. building fires for heat. the main activity is walking. river beaches - swimming in rivers is so rarely done in NJ PA anymore bc of contamination but rivers here are clear and COLD.

Yes I e often say it feels like a throw back to life in the 80’s when I grew up! Lucky kids getting this “lost experience “!

it has really helped to have Stranger Things and other TV shows set in the 80s. this way my kid didnt think it was totally cringe.

There's something strangely comforting in knowing there are still places that value a slower pace to life. Living on a river, I frequently get moments of "stop...just breathe...and enjoy this moment" that I am so grateful for.

And that tree is amazing!! Wish we could grow them here in Oregon.

Your place on the river is truly magical 🤩 It’s so hard in the U.S. not to get caught up in the frenetic pace - it took me six months to readjust my nervous system when I first moved here. Now when I visit the U.S. I’m amazed I considered that normal 🤕

It's going to be my sanctuary for sure...where time can just move a little slower. While my career can be crazy at times, it also allows me to have moments of zen as well. I truly look forward to this summer, where I can work outside more, adding more plants, making the outside more beautiful and peaceful....it'll also be nice to see the sun again, not be cold, etc. Ha ha.
